I checked idealist and habitat for humanity. I can do all kinds of work. Especially anything with the arts. Can someone point me in the right direction? serious answers only please.

There are plenty of homeless in Jackson Square (in the French Quarter). How about giving out Care Packages?

Check out VolunteerMatch. Even if there isn't an opportunity posted for the specific days you will be there, contact organizations listed on VolunteerMatch and let them know what your availability is and what skills you want to donate (don't just write and say, "I want to help!"). Arts organizations -- museums, theaters, music groups, etc. -- should be very easy to find in the New Orleans area using Google. Contact them and, again, let them know what your availability is and what skills you want to donate (don't just write and say, "I want to help!").
