Planning a trip to New Orleans in May 2011. I have time share. Any suggestions on where to stay?
I am going with 4 friends and would like to stay at a nice place and one that is close to most things. If you are familiar with time share resorts in the area ---please make suggestion. Thanks.

Well I'm not too sure about time shares in the area. However, try the following sites for condos/homes for rent. They are often very decently priced and a lot of times you may find a great deal, even in the French Quarter (I've also noticed some time share owners use these sites as well). If you can find a home in the French Quarter stay there and you will be close to everything you want to do. And if you decide to venture further for a Katrina tour, or a self-guided tour of the Garden District, utilize the streetcar and the various shuttles that pick up at nearly every corner. www.vrbo.com www.homeaway.com www.vacationrentals.com

Quarter House and Wyndham Bourbon Orleans http://www.quarterhouse.com/ If you can stay at a regular hotel stay at Hotel Monteleone or the place de armes. My favorite things: The best po boy sandwich is Domilise's a little family owned place outside of the quarter and is cash only. Love this place the family is super nice and remember my mother by first name from when she used to go in after school during high school. This is a best kept secret. My favorite drinks is the Planters Punch at Pat O's, Pimms Cup at the Napolean House, and bloody mary at the avenue pub uptown. It depends what you are looking for in your accommodations. I'm assuming that you are going to try to exchange to the location. I'd suggest the Mardi Gras Manor, the Courtyards or the Wyndham La Belle Maison. The Wyndham is more of a higher end resort. The Courtyards is rather small and quaint and may not accommodate all five of you well. I'd suggest that you go to the RCI directory and take a look.

How much Money Do I need to Bring for a 4 day trip to New Orleans?
I am visiting my fiancee's hometown for 4 days starting February 19th through the 24th I heard something about "FAT TUESDAY" but I dont know what that is, anywho I need to know how much money I should plan on spending out there and also if anyone could throw in some great attractions that last all night long I would greatly appreciate it?

google "fat tuesday" it depends on how much you spend normally and how much you are willing to spend. are you going out a lot? buy a lot of drinks? gifts? food? supplies? at least 100 beans a day even more

I wouldn't bring more than $75. When traveling to a city you don't know well, you really shouldn't carry a lot of cash. If you have a credit card that would be much better. And, most credit cards offer cash-back. And like somebody already said, new orleans is dangerous, so be ready for anything, and don;t carry a lot of money.

I am a 29 year resident of New Orleans. I would suggest that you bring no less than $100 for each day. Being that you are coming for Fat Tuesday AKA Mardi Gras, there will be tons of things you will want to get. For the parades alon there will be trucks up & down the street selling all sorts of gadgets from beads to panties. As far as all night partying goes, there are tons of clubs open all night but the only place You need to go is to Bourbon St., it is an all night party all by itself. Not to mention the hosts of clubs and daiquiri shop it's lined with. If gambling is more your thing Harrah's casino is located a convenient 3 blocks away from Bourbon. BTW, the place to be on Mardi Gras day is Canal St. which intersects with Bourbon. And you don't need it a gun, it is not as bad as they make it out to be. Just stay with a group and you will be fine. Whatever the case may be HAVE FUN!!! What happens here stays here!!!!!

Went to New Orleans not long ago. The French Quarter is much nicer now. There is a renewed effort to keep it up. So definately check it out. New Orleans is much different than most towns. The night life in the French Quarter at least, lasts pretty much til dawn. Music coming out of almost every door you pass. It's ok to take a drink with you down the street (in plastic only). Pretty laid back. I never felt in danger and no one ever bothered me. Don't be stupid about your safety, but don't "take a gun" either. Things there are about as expensive as any tourist destination, but during Mardi Gras "Fat Tuesday" things will likely be more expensive. During Mardi Gras you may find things more rauchous as it is kind of a non-stop party. The 24th is Mardi Gras so you may miss it if you are leaving that day. If you are driving be aware that they have a ton of camera's at intersections and I laughingly said that is how they are making the money to rebuild. Those things go off every few seconds...big money! The street cars are cool...where else could you get a tour of the city for $1.25 (exact change only). If you want a expensive but worth it dining experience, try Commander's Palace. Awesome. Go to the lunch it's much cheaper than dinner unless you really want to spend the bucks. The cemetaries are legendary because they are all above ground and some are very ornate. Worth a walk though unless you are spooked by that sort of thing. Be sure to tour the areas hit by Katrina and marvel at how well they are recovering. Good luck and you absolutely must try the Beignets! Hot fried bread loaded with powered suger! A New Orleans staple.

For the night scene check out Frenchmen Street. Live music and good bars, normally open until 4 or 5 am. However, I currently live in New Orleans I certainly DO NOT have a gun or feel like I am in great peril every time I cross the street. Just be aware of the area you are in and do not go wondering off alone at night. If it looks shady, its a clear indication to stay way. A little common sense and sticking to the tourist areas will make for a safe and fun trip.

An incomplete guide to bars & clubs: www.neworleanscheapdrinks.com How much money to bring depends on what you plan to do, but partying all night usually isn't cheap (at least it's not cheap for guys). As the other answers suggest, budget $100 per day. Take a debit card or credit card you can use to get money from ATMs, but don't wait until you are in the French Quarter to find one. The ATMs downtown and along the parade routes tend to run out of money quickly during Carnival. Crowds in the French Quarter can get really think and being in them can be like inside a crowded elevator. There can be pickpockets in the crowd (I have never had a problem) so carry your cash, ID, and credit/debit cards in a front pocket rather than in a wallet or purse. Otherwise you only need the basic common sense required everywhere to be safe. "Dick Cheney", "Getting Old", Dave S", and similar do not know what they are talking about. Hope you have a great time!

I'm From Florida, Me and A friend are driving to new orleans for about 5 days, it takes 8 hours to drive there...how much should we save for like hotels, food, gas, fun etc???

well I would guess you will need Gas: $80 +/- Hotel: you can usually find a fairly nice hotel from $90-140 a night (maybe less with Internet specials) Food: meals can run about $10 each meal on up entertainment: I would try to budget $30 +/- a day if you can (you can easily spend more) Alcohol: $endless It really depends on how you want to travel but hopefully this helps. Have fun.

We used about $100 in gas (to drive a little less than you did); you might want to make it $120-150 just to be safe (with rising gas prices). I'm not sure how much hotels run in New Orleans, but I'm pretty sure they're expensive. It's also usually rainy and HOT (so you'll want LOTS to drink). And of course, you'll want to take tours and stuff. All together, I'd save at LEAST a couple thousand, just to make sure everything is covered. Take a credit card also, just in case something happens (flat tire, etc.). Have fun, be safe (STICK TOGETHER!!) and enjoy! I love New Orleans; the city itself is disgusting, but the culture is so amazing!

the same as if you were going to any tourist area in Fla. it all depends if you stay at the Hyatt or the holiday inn. eat burgers or steaks? buy t shirts or blue dawg prints? is fun to you drinking $10 drinks on the patio or eating $4 plates of sugar covered donuts? you can spend a little or a lot. fun is hard to put a $ on. riding the street car is fun to me but some ppl would rather sit in the sun on a park bench so it's all a matter of choice. www . care2 . com if someone says to you "I bet you a dollar I can tell you where you got your shoes at" tell them yeah the same place you got yours "on your feet"

Taking a trip to New Orleans whats the best places to eat?
We are gonna have a 8yr old, 5yr old and 1 year old with us, we are bring them to the aquarium, zoo, and IMAX, we would also like to eat out too, whats the best places to go that are safe too? We are taking a trip to New Orleans for August 28th-August 30th, its my birthday present. I have never been and I have wanted to go so badly. How neat! It isn't a restaurant but you really need to go to Cafe Du Monde You need to try the beignets!!!

Well like the others said Cafe Du Monde and NOLA are great places to go. It really depends on how much you want to spend. Because the restaurants that you hear about in the news and such are normally on the expensive side. But Camellia Grill is a great place to go. Hears their website: http://www.camelliagrill.net/ Emeril's restaurants are always great so any of those would be great to eat at. Broussard's is another great place. A nice dress-up restaurant. Sort of on the expensive side but great food. www.broussards.com On what you said about the crime thing. Its not bad in the tourist heavy areas. The crime that goes on is only between criminals most of the time. Also the crime isn't in the french quarter its more in the bad parts of town. But still be cautious as if you were in your own town. Don't go down dark alleys and things tlike that. Take the obvious precautions but I wouldn't be to scared if I were you. **OH!!!! And another place to take your kids that just recently opened is the Audobon Insecterium!! It's absolutely awesome! Its pretty new and it's just really cool. Your kids should have fun going to that!!!** HOPE IT HELPS!!!!
